Non-Touristic Destinations in Nepal

Travelling to a destination less travelled shows that the beauty of Nepal stretches well beyond the familiar places. Travelling to non-tourist destinations not only helps you appreciate their beauty and brings them much-deserved attention, it is also an opportunity for the communities in the area to benefit from the exposure and learn to provide services. A non-tourist destination can also be a gateway to individual experiences, as you get to explore areas that few others visit. Malung Treks & Expedition offers treks to non-touristic destinations in Nepal.

Khaptad

Supported by a strong ecosystem, the Khaptad area is located in the far western region of Nepal. This place is a great opportunity to witness the widely varied vegetation that Nepal has to offer. The region is also known for Khaptad Baba, a hermit who lived in the area for 50 years while meditating.

Limi Valley

Interested in nomadic lifestyle and ancient history? Then Limi Valley, tucked away on the north-west border of Nepal, is the place for you. The area has a very small population, influenced by Tibetan culture – a place where time has stood still. The unconventional trail that leads to the valley is graced by historic artefacts and a unique culture.

Api Nampa

Api Nampa does not quite come onto the radar of most visitors when they think of mountain journeys, but this remote area in the far west of Nepal has some of the most spectacular views to offer, with icy plateaus, unconventional trails around Api Himal and views of other famous peaks such as Nanda Devi.

Wild West

Straight out of a nature documentary: experience wildlife at its finest in Bardiya National Park and Shuklaphanta National Park. These two parks provide a home to some of the rarest species on the planet, including elephant, tiger and the rare one-horned rhino.

Fort Tour

When we think of Nepal we usually think of the Himalayas, but the country also has a rich history told by the forts that stand in different parts of Nepal. The most notable include the seven-storey Nuwakot Durbar, Gorkha Durbar and Makwanpur Gadhi. Each has striking architecture, and the walls of the forts witnessed many exchanges between the notable rulers of their time.

Karnali Rafting

Known for its spectacular white-water rafting, the Karnali River makes its way from Mount Kailash in Tibet and is one of the great rivers of Nepal – perfect for adrenaline enthusiasts.

Pikey Trek

The Pikey trek is an emerging popular trek to Pikey Peak (4,068 m). It is a comfortable trek with far fewer difficulties than other treks in the Everest (Khumbu) region, famous for its stunning dawn and dusk views. The trek explores the wild Himalayas and their unique villages, with local delicacies and the very warm hospitality of the local people.

Big Kalinchok Valley

The Big Kalinchok valley, known as "the valley of cultural places", is extremely rich in culture and custom. The area is unspoiled and its people are little known outside their region. The valley offers snow ridges, torrents wrapped in mist and lakes of crystalline brilliance.

Arun Valley

The Arun Valley trek takes travellers along one of the oldest trade routes of Nepal, once used by locals to take goods, especially agricultural products, to Namche Bazaar. The Arun valley lies between two important national parks, Makalu-Barun National Park and Sagarmatha (Everest) National Park. Aside from its biodiversity, the valley is celebrated for its beautiful Sherpa and Rai villages and its views of Himalayan giants including Baruntse, Nuptse, Makalu, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and Thamserku.
