Malung Treks and Expedition, more of a family and a friend than just a business associate, is a travel agency with the motive to express the tales of the myriad of beauty in Nepal to the frontier of the world. Our proficiency and expertise have allowed us to gain massive success and trust among the clients who have chosen us to befriend them in their journey to this Himalayan nation.
We offer a great array of services: tours, treks, climbing and expeditions, and our recent initiative, charity treks, among many others – all prepared after rigorous study of the trails and the necessities of travellers.
Our trip packages allow family-oriented trips, differently abled individuals and benevolent aspirants to embark upon any journey of their choice. Charity Treks, one of our newer approaches to tourism, are aimed at providing an extra pair of helping hands to the rural sections of the country.
Message from the Managing Director
Dear Travellers,
We hope you are planning to visit Nepal. If so, we recommend that you do not trek alone, but book a guide or porter through a registered trekking company.
An agent will be able to advise you on the choice of transport to and from your trek, provide a qualified guide and/or porter, and give sound advice on equipment, choice of route, time needed and points of interest along the way. Once booked, you should inform your closest relatives or friends about the contact person and all agency details.
In the event of your going missing or, more likely, having an accident, an agent would immediately inform your insurance company and initiate search or rescue procedures. The agent can save time because he has an approximate idea of your position. An agent can also arrange suitable hospitalisation and eventual repatriation, keep relatives up to date and answer their questions.
Agents provide insurance and suitable equipment for their staff; however, you should make sure that this will be done at the time of booking. Have a first-aid kit suitable for yourself and your guide or porter.
If you decide not to use an agent, we recommend you inform your embassy, consulate or hotel of your itinerary. We do not recommend employing unregistered guides or porters you meet on the street or along the way – unless you are exhausted or hurt and require immediate assistance.
Your agent can supply the mandatory TIMS card and secure national park entry permits, saving you time and taxi fares. We recommend you register your details at the official check posts and national park posts, both of which are mandatory, and at the hotels and lodges you stay at. This creates a trail of your progress should it be necessary.
Having said the above, please do not be afraid. Nepal is one of the safest countries in the world for travellers, but accidents can happen. A guide is more than just a safety factor: he or she can help choose lodges, secure accommodation, advise on altitude sickness, share your load, offer alternative routes and seek help if necessary. As a bonus, a guide can open up an array of easy-to-miss experiences at a local-knowledge level.

About Raj Kumar Rai
Namaste! I’m Raj Kumar Rai — a trekking guide, entrepreneur and community leader with a passion for Nepal’s mountains, culture and people.
Growing up in the hills of eastern Nepal, I developed a deep bond with nature and village life. I began my journey as a trekking guide, sharing the beauty of the Himalayas and Nepali hospitality with travellers from around the world.
Over the years, I’ve launched several ventures inspired by that same spirit:
- Founder of Malung Treks: we specialise in personalised, responsible trekking and tour experiences across Nepal, designed to honour the land, traditions and communities we pass through.
- Manager of a hotel rooftop restaurant: a family-run spot offering homemade Nepali cuisine, stunning mountain views and genuine mountain hospitality.
- Co-founder of Summit Wellness: a massage and spa centre created to help visitors and trekkers relax, heal and recharge.
- Founder of Welcome Home Nepal (WH Nepal): a social organisation (whnepal.org) dedicated to community development — focusing on education, women’s empowerment and rural upliftment.
- Supporter of Mother Sister Nepal (Sindhupalchowk): proud to contribute to local initiatives that uplift women and families in the Sindhupalchowk district.
- Former head of Conscious Impact Nepal: led earthquake recovery and sustainable development projects in Sindhupalchok, strengthening my commitment to grassroots, purpose-driven work.
Today, my life is still rooted in the mountains — organising treks, guiding adventurers, welcoming guests and empowering local communities.
My vision is simple: connecting people with Nepal in meaningful, respectful and healing ways — whether through adventure, wellness or social service.
